tubesolar’s patented tube technology enables double use of an agricultural area
Up until now, the “either-or” principle has applied to open spaces. Either agricultural use or solar park. Photovoltaic tubes from tubesolar enable a combination and therefore provide a double source of income. Above, electricity is harvested with close to the same efficiency as conventional modules – approx. 1 MW per hectare. In addition, field crops are harvested below. Conventional area collectors can only insufficiently offer this efficient and profitable type of double cultivation.

The Technology
Innovative application of a proven technology
As early as 2011, Dr. Vesselinka Petrova-Koch, who holds a degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in semiconductor physics and materials science, invented a simple encapsulation of flexible PV strips in a glass tube at Gate-East in Garching. On the advice of her husband Prof. Frederik Koch, a U.S. physicist who was a professor at the Technical University of Munich from 1972 to 2005 and who established semiconductor physics in Munich and at this university, Dr. Vesselinka Petrova-Koch proposed to Osram® to jointly patent and implement the invention. The idea was to realign and continue to use the high-quality glass tube production at Osram® in Augsburg. In 2019, tubesolar AG purchased the patents from Dr. Vesselinka Petrova-Koch and from LEDVANCE® (who had in the meantime acquired the OSRAM® share of the patents).

The future of agrophotovoltaics
tubesolar AG is the result of a successful transformation of the former OSRAM®/LEDVANCE® fluorescent tube production into a photovoltaic tube production in Augsburg. Since 2019, the patent-protected technology has been used to manufacture innovative photovoltaic thin-film tubes.
tubesolar’s headquarters are located on the former site of the OSRAM® factory in Augsburg. With Felix Mantke and Jürgen Gallina as commercial and technical directors, tubesolar AG has two experienced managers leading the business. While Jürgen Gallina held technical management positions at OSRAM® for over 20 years, the former German Public Auditor and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Felix Mantke, since 01.01.2022 member of the Managing Board, is an extremely experienced senior expert in M&A and Capital Markets.
